Pre-Purchase Exams
Pre-Purchase exams are customized to meet each clients needs.
These exams focus on the evaluation of the horse’s eyes,
lungs, gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal systems. Blood also
is evaluated. The goal is the quantify the health and well-being
of the animal, as well as lameness or any other medical problems.
EVA conducts pre-purchase exams daily for our clients.
We begin the process in our indoor arena with the horse’s
movement, examining the animal’s movement on flat ground
at a walk and trot. Then the animal is lunged or ridden. Lameness
issues may be readily identified. Following this conduct flexion
tests to aggravate potential lameness issues. Next, a full set
of x-rays and fluoroscopic images provide the balance of the exam
required for the decision process. Depending upon need, other
tests could include the endoscope, drug testing and ultrasound.
